Martyn Mallory Historic Photograph Collection
A full 30 years before Ansel Adams began taking his renowned photographs
Martyn Mallory (1880-1936) was traversing the Wood River Valley, Smoky
Mountains, Galena Summit, and the Sawtooth Valley/Stanley Basin areas of
central Idaho taking archetypal photographs on glass plate negatives of
lakes, scenic vistas, mining towns, early settlements and social events. A
few of Mallory's photographs have made it into Idaho history books and other
local history publications, including such photographs as the construction
of the Sun Valley Lodge and the burning of gambling tables in front of the
Blaine County Courthouse. For the most part, the beauty and artistry of
Martyn Mallory has gone unnoticed for nearly 3/4 of a century. William and
Maria Mallory gifted the collection to the Hailey Public Library in 1995.
The Hailey Public Library is pleased to offer a selection of photographic
images for reproduction. Contact the Hailey Public Library if you have any
questions concerning the Martyn Mallory Collection its reproduction and use.
